Reverend Coley Mearite, Historian

Reverend Dr. Coley Mearite, is a product of the Ebenezer Baptist Church located in Clio, SC. He is a 1963 graduate of the former Lincoln High School that was located in Clio, SC. He is a graduate of Morris College School of Religion; ITC Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, GA in conjunction with Benedict College, Columbia, SC; International Overcoming Outreach School of Religion, Columbia, SC; and David A. A. Mungo Theological Seminary, Pageland, SC.

Dr. Mearite has earned a Bachelor of Theology Degree, a Master's Degree in Christian Education, a Doctorate of Divinity Degree, and a Doctorate of Theology Degree. He has also earned a Marriage Therapy Diploma, Teacher's Certification, Certification of Honor and Distinction from the SC Congress of Christian Education for courses completed, Certificates of Study from the Department of Christian Education General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc., Raleigh, NC. He attended Northeastern Technical College where he studied Data Processing Fundamentals, Computer Science and Typing. He was employed with Delta Mills Marketing Company as a Computer Operator in Accounts Payable for thirty-five years before retiring.

Dr. Mearite is a member of the Pee Dee Baptist Education and Missionary Executive Board, a member of the Baptist E&M Convention of SC, a member of the National Baptist Convention, USA, and a life-time member of the NAACP. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Bennettsville Downtown Development Association.

He is a professor at Northeastern Technical College where he teaches Exploring the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of Paul, the Parables of Jesus, and the Four Gospels.

Dr. Mearite has over thirty-three years of dedicated service in ministry. He was the former pastor of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Clio, SC and for eighteen years and served as former pastor of Butler Branch Baptist Church, Fair Bluff, NC for sixteen years. He has been the pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church for the past 20+ years and has led Shiloh in many improvements and accomplishments. He has taken in more than a hundred members and made more than fifty noteworthy purchases.

He is a member of the Golden Eagle Lodge #392 and the Golden Stars Order of the Eastern Stars Chapter #371, where he serves as the Worthy Patron. Dr. Mearite is happily married to Gladys Christine Mearite and they are the proud parents of one adult child and two grandchildren.
