Mrs. Thelma Bowens is married to Deacon Donald A. Bowens of Marion, South Carolina. They are blessed with three wonderful children (Donnalisa, Leslie and Crosby) and five grandchildren. She is a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Marion.
Mrs. Bowens received her education from Johnakin High School in Marion, South Carolina and PS #117 in Brooklyn, New York. She was employed as a seamstress at Heritage Sportswear. She later received her certification and worked as a nurse's aide assistant at Finger Clinic and English Park Medical Center in Marion, South Carolina.
Mrs. Bowens has always loved children and has played an important role in not only her children's lives, but the children within the community and church as well. She is the past advisor of the original Junior Choir #2 which consisted of over 100 voices and currently serves as advisor of the Mt. Pisgah Junior Usher Board #2. She is a deaconess (having served as secretary of the Deaconess Ministry for 31 years and its current assistant secretary), member of the Missionary Society, and attends Bible Study and Prayer Service.
She loves keeping busy with church affiliated groups. She is vice chairperson of the Pee Dee District Woman's Department Life Membership Committee, member of the Mt. Moriah #11 Order of the Eastern Stars in Marion, South Carolina, Girl Scout leader and Girl Scout Chairman of the Pee Dee area for 27 years, and former president, correspondence secretary and secretary of the Pee Dee District Deaconess of the Pee Dee Baptist Association. For her hard work and dedicated service, Mrs. Bowens was voted as the Woman of the Year of the Woman's Baptist Pee Dee District Department on July 23, 2009.
Having a firm belief in God and the Bible, she believes that everyone should love one another regardless of the situations. Her favorite Bible verse is John 13:34: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
