Mrs. Joan Becoat: Treasurer

Mrs. Joan Becoat was born in Florence County a daughter of the late Mr. Major Lee Timmons and Mrs. Josephine Cain Timmons. She is the wife of the late Jesse Becoat and the mother of three children Stanley, Rashad, and Jessica Timmons. She has three granddaughters Anzia Wallace, Jazlyn, and Jayla Timmons and one great grand, Kennedi Wallace. She has a host of God sent children and grandchildren.

Her spiritual knowledge of Christ started in the early years of her live when her grandparents told her about Jesus. Her personal relationship with Christ began during revival at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church where she was baptized at age twelve. She relocated to Pamplico, SC, where she joined the Pee Dee Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J. W. Walker. She worked closely with her former pastor, Reverend Leroy Edwards and is currently under the leadership of Reverend Jermaine Walker.

Joan attended Willow Creek Elementary School, Wilson Junior and Wilson High Schools and graduated in 1967 from Gibbs High School. Joan always had a desire to do hair, so at the age of thirty-three, she attended Bethune Jones School of Cosmetology and received her cosmetology license. She then opened her own salon, “Joan’s Professional Hair Care” in Pamplico, SC. While operating her salon, she was employed at General Electric for thirty-three years and retired in 2005 and retired from cosmetology and salon ownership in 2007.

She is the Worthy Matron for Light of Pamplico Chapter #80. At Pee Dee Baptist Church, she is Vice President of the Senior Missionary Society, YWA Advisor, Secretary of Women on the Move With Christ, Past President of the Junior Usher Board and a past choir member.

Her hobbies include reading, sewing, traveling, art, and she loves to fellowship with others. Her favorite scripture comes from Philippian’s 4:13 that states “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
