Rev. Kippie C. Brown, Dean

The Reverend Kippie C. Brown, at the age of sixteen, viewed preaching as essential in developing the lives of others. Having grown up in the Baptist tradition in Lake City, South Carolina, he witnessed the enormous attention given to evangelism, through the preached word, which pricked the conscience of the members of the congregation to "live again.”

It was not until early adulthood when he stood firm in his faith and accepted his call into the ministry. It was then that he realized that true discipleship is an encounter with Christ, which permeates a transformation. True discipleship involves openness to the future and the expectation that we will change as we walk closer and closer with God.

He graduated from Lake City High School in 1991. He continued his studies and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry, from Morris College, graduating Cum Laude.  He holds a Master of Divinity concentrating in Homiletics and Pastoral Care and Counseling, from the Interdenominational Theological Center, in Atlanta, Georgia.  During his matriculation at ITC, he served on the Morehouse School of Religion (MSR) Late Night Committee, the Student Christian League Executive Board, for three consecutive years he was awarded the MSR and Sandy L. Ray Preaching Award, the MSR President Leadership Award and has received outstanding achievement awards for his hard work and dedication to ministry.

Currently, Reverend Brown serves as the Pastor of Maxwell Baptist Church in Florence, SC.  Prior to that appointment, he had the honor of pastoring Springfield Baptist Church (Greenville, SC), Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church (Newark, NJ), New Providence Missionary Baptist Church (Darlington, SC) and Friendship #2 Baptist Church (Nichols, SC).

During his pastoring, Reverend Brown has served on the Board of Commissioners for New Church Membership and on the Urban League of the Upstate Board of Directors. His community engagement includes service with the Pee Dee Baptist Association, the South Carolina E&M Convention, the New Jersey Ministerial Alliance, the New Jersey Christian Fellowship Association, the New Jersey General Baptist Convention, the Enoree River Baptist Association, and as a Staff Member and division chair for the SC Congress of Christian Education.

He is an alumnus of the Greenville (Prisma) Health System Chaplaincy program, the Furman University Riley Institute Diversity Leadership Initiative, the Greenville Chamber's Leadership Greenville, and a Liberty Fellow, Class of 2018. He is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

He is married to his high school sweetheart, Tarsha Spears and they are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Kyrah and Kennedy.

His favorite scripture is: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9). Because he is committed to the call to serve, Reverend Brown has been blessed with a moving passion to willingly serve all mankind with the simple motto, "If you take care of God's business, God will take care of your business."

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel" Luke 4:18
