Rev. Barbara Pickard, Board Member

Reverend Pickard is a native of Baltimore, MD. She received her public education in New York and South Carolina, graduating in 1962 from the Historic Mayo High School in Darlington, SC. She furthered her education by enrolling into Florence-Darlington Technical College and Coker College. A 2005 graduate of Morris College Continuing Pastoral and Christian Education Extension Program in Cheraw, SC and a 2017 Graduate of Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) of Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, GA.

Reverend Pickard was licensed to preach on September 10, 2000 and was ordained to the Gospel on July 27, 2003, both by Reverend Dr. E. B. Burroughs at Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Darlington, SC.

She retired in 2002 after thirty years, from General Electric Cooperation in Florence, SC.

Her civic involvements include General Electric Retirement Club, Mayo High School Alumni, Morris College Alumni and member of the Darlington Ministerial Association (Communication Secretary).

 

Reverend Pickard attends and supports the Progressive National Baptist Convention, the Woman’s Baptist E&M Convention of SC, the Spiritual Life Ministry of the Woman’s Baptist E&M Convention of SC and the South Carolina Baptist Congress of Christian Education.

 

In the Woman’s Pee Dee District Department, she serves or have served in many capacities: Banquet Committee Chairperson and Co-Chairperson, Cluster #3 Leader (Darlington County), Nominating Committee, Chairperson of the Spiritual Life Ministry, Life Membership, Care Bags (Children) Ministry, and Spiritual Recital Committee. She has received many awards, plaques and recognitions of appreciation, two of many she holds dear and near to her heart are: “Woman of the Year” in 2004 from the Woman’s Pee Dee District Department (formerly the Woman’s Baptist District Convention) and Twenty-Five Years of Service as Cluster #3 Leader.

She attends the Pee Dee District Christian Education Department Bible Institutes, Tribal Workshops, and serves as a member of the Executive Board.

 

Reverend Pickard also serves faithfully in her church, Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she is a life member. She is on the Ministerial Staff, where she is an Assistant to the Pastor, a Young Adult Sunday School Teacher, member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Senior Missionary Ministry (one of the past Presidents), Parishioner/Sick Visitation Ministry Coordinator, Youth Bible Study Teacher, Adult VBS Teacher, Fulfillment Hour Banquet Chairperson and Feeding the Hungry (Community) Ministry. She is also the Spiritual Daughter of Reverend Dr. E. B. (Doris) Burroughs.

 

The mother of two children, seven grandchildren, and one great grand. She has five brothers and two sisters.

Her favorite poem is the Serenity Prayerand her favorite Scripture is Psalms 27. She is fulfilling one of her dreams of being a Retreat Leader, “the desire of your Heart is God’s”.

 

Her motto is, “Just to make a positive difference in someone’s life”.
