Laymen's Department
Deacon George Edward Gattison, Sr. is a long-time member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Society Hill. He was ordained as a deacon on December 11, 1964 and is actively involved in the Male Choir, Youth Auxiliary, Pastor's Aid, and Laymen.
Deacon Gattison is a proud 1969 graduate of Rosenwald High School and remains an active alumnus. He is a Vietnam veteran and retired from Galey and Lord after working over 36 years as a machinist.
He has been married to the beautiful Ethel Ratliff Gattison for over 42 years and they have four children: Shelia, George, Jr., Tina and Cree. He is also the proud Papa of eight grandchildren. He loves to garden, fish and spend time with his family.
