Dr. Waymon Mumford is a lifelong resident of Florence, South Carolina. He is married to the former Senora Davis of Sumter, South Carolina, and they are the proud parents of two sons (Raymond and Steve), and one daughter (Tena). They have been blessed with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Wilson High School in 1967, Florence-Darlington Technical College in 1980, the 133rd FBI National Academy in 1983, and earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Limestone College in 1992. He is also a 2003 graduate of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC). He was awarded the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Law from Morris College in May 2012.
He acknowledged his call to the ministry in 1998 and was licensed by the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Darlington, SC) in 1998. Six months later, he was ordained by the Pee Dee Baptist Association. Dr. Mumford is the Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Florence, SC.
Dr. Mumford serves on the Florence County Council, District #7 (elected in November 1994) and on January 17, 2019 was elected Chairperson. He was employed with the City of Florence for 25 years and retired as Chief of Police in 1994 after advancing through the ranks from patrolman. He is also a retired Court Security Officer for the District Court of South Carolina.
Dr. Mumford is the Moderator for the Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Association, Past Moderator for the Florence and Affiliated Counties Baptist Educational and Missionary Union, Past Member of the Trustee Board for Morris College, member of the Wilsonian Clergy, member of the executive board of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., Moderator’s Council Coordinator for the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina, Past President and Advisor of the Pee Dee Baptist District Brotherhood and Past Treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood Convention. He is actively involved in community affairs and volunteers his services to numerous organizations to include the Past Board Member of Directors for the Health Facilities Federal Credit Union, Member of the Board of Directros of the Pee Dee Federal Credit Union, the South Carolina Counties' Workers' Compensation Trust and Property and Liabilities' Trust, the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Association of Counties, the Board of Directors for the National Association of Counties (NAco) and Past Region Five Vice President of the Baptist E&M Convention of South Carolina.
