Usher's
Mrs. Thelma Bowens is married to Deacon Donald A. Bowens of Marion, SC. They are blessed with three wonderful children from this union: Donnalisa, Leslie and Crosby and they have five grandchildren. Mrs. Bowens received her education from Johnakin High School in Marion, SC and PS # 117 in Brooklyn, NY. Mrs. Bowens was employed as a seamstress at Heritage Sportswear in Marion, SC. Later, she received her certification and was employed as a Nurses’ Aide Assistant at Finger Clinic and English Park Medical Center in Marion, SC.
She has always loved children and she has played an important role in not only her children’s lives, but the children within the community and church. Mrs. Bowens and Deacon Bowens are members of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Marion, SC, where she is and always has been very active in her church. She was the Advisor of the original Junior Choir # 2 which consisted of over one hundred (100) voices strong. She is currently the Advisor of the Mt. Pisgah Young Adult Usher Board. Other church affiliated groups that Mrs. Bowens devotes much time are the Deaconess of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church which she was Secretary for thirty-one (31) years. Also, she was the Assistant Secretary of the Deaconesses at her church. She is a member of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Society, and she attends Bible Study and Prayer Service.
She loves keeping busy with church affiliated groups. She was former President of the Pee Dee District Deaconess of the Pee Dee Baptist Association and the Correspondence Secretary and Secretary of the Pee Dee District Deaconesses of the Pee Dee Baptist Association. On July 23, 2009, she was voted “Woman of the Year” of by the Woman’s Baptist Pee Dee District Department. She was the Assistant Chairperson of the Woman’s Pee Dee District Department Life Membership Committee. Currently, she is serving as the Pee Dee District Youth Usher Assistant Advisor of the Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Association and she was the past Advisor of the Pee Dee Youth Ushers.
Mrs. Bowens is a member of the Mt. Moriah # 11 Order of the Eastern Stars in Marion, SC. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and Girl Scout Chairman of the Pee Dee area for twenty-seven (27) years.
Mrs. Bowens is a firm believer in God and the Bible. She believes that everyone should love one another regardless of situations. Her favorite verse is: John 13:34: “A new command, I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another”.
