Minister Ruthena Edwards, Historian

Minister Ruthena Ellis Edwards is an Associate Minister of Pee Dee Baptist Church in Pamplico, South Carolina where the Reverend Jermaine Walker is the Pastor.  She is the widower of Reverend Leroy T. Edwards.

 

Education: Minister Edwards was educated at St. Mark School, St. Luke Elementary, Battery Park High School, and she graduated from Stuckey High School in Johnsonville, South Carolina.  She is a graduate of Morris College with a B.A. in Social Studies and Francis Marion University with a Master in Elementary Education. She is also a graduate of the Morris College Ministerial Extension Program.

 

Employment: She is a retired educator and previously worked at Ashwood Central High School in Bishopville, South Carolina for four (4) years. She also taught in the Darlington, SC School System for thirty-six (36) years.

 

Civic Duties & Awards: Minister Edwards served as the Past Matron of Kingsburg Chapter #182 Order of the Eastern Star. She is also past Educator of the year at St. John’s Elementary School, and a past Tip Grant Winner. She is presently a member of the Disable Veterans of America (DAV), Past President of Pee Dee Baptist Ministers Wives, a Life Member of Woman’s Pee Dee District Department, Chairperson of the Woman’s Baptist E&M Convention of SC Devotional Committee, Life Member of the Woman’s Baptist E&M Convention of SC and a member of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

 

Family & Hobbies: She has been grown from a line of preachers: her father was the Reverend Shem Ellis and she married to Reverend Leroy T. Edwards. She has two children, Spencer Edwards and Annika Edwards Huell (Gregory Huell), and seven grandchildren Jakya, Christhena, Christian, Ariel, Gabriel, Lela and Ari.

 

During her spare time, she enjoys reading the Bible, singing at nursing homes, gardening, traveling, taking pictures, and spending time with her grandchildren.

 

Most of all Minister Edwards is a Spirit filled Child of God. Her favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.”
